The Beauty in Change

I’ve heard people say fall is depressing because it signifies decay and dying. I, however, believe fall is the most glorious of months, filled with vibrant color, residual warmth, vivid blue skies, and a hint of coolness. Fall’s beauty reminds us of God’s glorious creation.

The Glory of Creation

God could have given us a drab, sterile world in which to live. Instead, His creation is filled with awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur. Nature has the ability to renew, refresh, and restore. Nature pleases the senses and provides peace and stability at times when life circumstances seem to be spinning out of control. A week at the beach brings relaxation. A trip to the mountains reinvigorates. Sitting on a deck or patio for an outdoor meal stimulates senses and elevates mood.

Ready for Change

I am one who enjoys the change of seasons. I always look forward to the return of spring and the onset of fall.

For many, change is difficult because there is no fear in familiarity. Change involves the unknown. Yet, with change come new possibilities and renewed forward motion. Change stretches us and helps us grow.

Looking Forward

Change prompts a forward-looking perspective. Fall signals the approach of holidays, celebrations with family and friends, excitement, and joy.

Changing life seasons bring opportunities to move forward and leave hurts and hardships behind. Learning to embrace change requires determination, but the rewards outweigh the effort. Look for all that is good and glorious in change.

The Reason for Seasons

We experience seasons because of earth’s axial tilt. Changing life seasons result from circumstances that tilt our personal world, spinning us out of our familiar orbit and into something new and different.

Wouldn’t it be nice if our lives were always status quo? Or would it? Sameness sometimes equals boredom. If everything worked out as we expected, we would have no reason to learn and grow, no reason to depend on God.

Seasonal changes in nature, and in life, provide hope and a new perspective.

The grandeur of our earth, and the glory of each of nature’s seasons, remind us beauty exists even in difficult life seasons. Hope is the catalyst for forward motion. Our beautiful earthly home is a foretaste of eternity.

“He [God] has made everything beautiful in its time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11a NIV).

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship” (Psalm 19:1 NLT).
